Acupuncture How Does Acupuncture Work

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese method of relieving pain and treating disease.
The procedure involves the insertion of needles into various parts of the body.
Acupuncture has been used to treat conditions such as:

  • asthma,
  • deafness,
  • migraines,
  • ulcers,
  • eye diseases, and
  • some types of mental illness.
According to Chinese philosophy, disease and pain occur because of an imbalance between two principal forces of nature—Yin and Yang. Acupuncture is thought to restore this balance.
Many Chinese and other people believe acupuncture influences a life force that flows along 12 paired and 2 unpaired meridians, channels of energy that run longitudinally in the body.
Therapists called acupuncturists insert sharp needles at one or more of hundreds of specific points along the meridian. Insertion of the needles produces a sharp pinching feeling. This feeling quickly disappears and is replaced by an occasional tingling or a sense of numbness, heaviness, or soreness while the needles are in place.
The patient is conscious throughout treatment.
Scientists have proposed three major theories of how acupuncture works.
One theory suggests that the meridians actually exist and connect the bodys organs in a special manner. According to this theory, acupuncture increases activity along the meridians and thus influences organ function.
Scientists have also theorized that acupuncture works, at least in part, by increasing the brains production of natural painkillers called endorphins. These substances are morphine-like chemicals that influence the bodys awareness of pain.
Scientists also theorize that acupuncture may work through the nervous system by triggering signals that interrupt pain messages sent to the brain. This hypothesis is known as the "gate theory" of pain.
Since the late 1950s, Chinese doctors have performed surgery using acupuncture as a local anesthetic; the patient remains fully conscious during the operation. Acupunctures practitioners say the anesthetic is effective for complicated operations on the stomach, chest, neck, and head.
Acupuncture is frequently used in the Far East and Southeast Asia. In the United States and other Western countries, it has not yet been totally accepted as a form of medical treatment.

HOW IS GEOTHERMAL ENERGY PRODUCED

Do you know what it is like at the center of the earth?

It is very, very hot.
The temperature is thought to be about 13,000 °F (7000 °C), which is hot enough to melt rock.

The heat spreads to the rock around the center of the earth and to water trapped between the layers of rock. In some parts of the world, this hot water is close to the earth’s surface. By pumping it out of the ground as hot water or steam, engineers have tapped a new source of energy. This energy is called geothermal energy, which means it is heat energy from under the ground.

Tropical fruit grows in Iceland!

Hot water from inside the earth may be used directly to heat buildings. In Iceland, where there are many hot springs, hot water heats greenhouses and swimming pools as well as homes. And although Iceland is close to the Arctic Ocean, people living there can grow bananas and other tropical fruit in their greenhouses!

Steam condenses into white clouds of water vapor rising from these hot springs in Iceland. Several countries have developed geothermal power plants to heat homes and generate electricity.

In one kind of geothermal power station, cold water is pumped down a pipe into the earth and is heated     by hot rock. Another pipe brings the hot water to the surface.

Several countries in the world, including the United States, Italy, and New Zealand, have built geothermal power stations. Steam, coming out of the ground at high pressure, is used to run steam turbines that generate electricity.
Engineers are trying to find out how more countries might use geothermal energy.
They started with a question. If the rock below the surface is hot but there is no water down there, why not drill a hole through the rock, pump cold water down and let the rock heat it up? Then the water could be pumped up again through a second hole.
Some engineers are working on an even better idea. They want to build a geothermal power station underground, which would generate electricity. Then only an electric cable would be needed to bring the electrical energy to the surface of the earth.

This books site, The Road Back, offers a plethora of favorable reviews from those whove used this book to ease off psycho-active drugs and into a wellspring of new health. Ditto for a web search of the books title. Its thus suspicious to me that neither reviewer, of the two reviews present as I write this, has created any other Amazon reviews. Moreover, neither reviewer has put forth authentic critique or content analysis. One of these two was asked by a reader for follow-up experiences in using the books approach, but has never checked back in.

To me, these reviews are meaningless, and I urge you to look past them. Because these two reviewers havent been motivated to write feedback on any other Amazon product, I wonder if the submissions are the work of Big Pharma. Perhaps they are efforts to dissuade readers from considering this approach, an approach that uses research to question the use of some of their biggest profit makers, while also providing the basis for all-natural alternatives. Of course, Im not saying that no authentic critique of this approach exists, but it isnt present here. At any rate, the approach is self-critical (which the author notes), meaning that it is continually evolving and self-correcting, so as to produce even better results.

Despite Big Pharmas inviting ads, taking psychoactive drugs is hardly ones best possible choice when facing difficulties (far from it!). Moreover, this option has consequences which are often kept from the limelight. As for your doctor, he/she is visited regularly by Big Pharma sales reps, but most definitely is not called upon regularly by those whove benefited from this approach. Think about that before you fold under the pressure of entities which put profit above everything else.
I weaned myself off of 150mg Effexor XR in 2007 over a 4 month period and suffered greatly for it, most especially in the long run (ie, 7 months later). I had a false relapse of major depression because of it and went on another drug. At this time, Im in contact with a woman through an online forum who is going through an Effexor taper (down dose) at this moment. She is following this book to the letter and purchasing TBR supplements. Her journey isnt easy but it is a lot more positive than mine was. In the future, I will use the guidelines in this book to taper (down dose) off of my current medication, which is not a "dirty" drug like Effexor. The secret is this book, a Paleo or JNK diet, and patience. You have to give your brain and body time to adjust and return to homeostasis via SLOW, small incremental changes. In short, following this book, changing your lifestyle, and going as slowly as possible is key. Dont become arrogant or frustrated. Youll go too fast and crash. Be smart--not emotional. The drug withdrawals will be emotional enough for you. Ha! UPDATE: Im currently using The Road Back Program and their TRB detox/taper kits. I actually feel better OFF of this drug than ON it. The only side-effect Im having is that Im tired. I may order AdMax/FemLife and see how it works. Im tapering slowly (3 months) and just started personal training 3x week, so its hard to tell what is causing what. (For dirty drugs like, Effexor or Paxil you may need to take 2 years to detox. Do whats right for YOU.) UPDATE: JANUARY 2014, Im completely off all unwanted medication and have been for a few months now. I still take a sleeping aid at bedtime, but Im happy with that. I feel clear-headed and even-keeled for the first time in about 13 years.
